We shine the Lures International spotlight on a great fishing store "Where professional fisherman buy their tackle".

Eleven years ago, on a Saturday morning, we called on Capt. Harry’s to show off our line of hand-made offshore fishing lures, and they became the first East Coast retail store to handle our lures. They liked our products and have been clients ever since.

Captain Harry Vernon founded this fishing supply business almost 40 years ago, and what a success story it is. In addition to operating a retail store in Miami, they ship fishing supplies all over the world, to people in over 160 countries! Many retail tackle shops buy their products from Capt. Harry’s, as do fishermen who work on the waters for pleasure, and those who depend on fishing for their livelihood.

Capt. Harry’s Fishing Supply has been at their current location since 1978, and later this year (or early 2010) will be moving to a new location which they built at 8501 North West 7th Avenue, Miami, Florida 33150. This new store is off the l-95 express way and is located half way between Ft. Lauderdale airport and the Miami airport. Their phone number when they move in will be 305-756-FISH.

The Good News is that Capt. Harry’s will be open longer hours on Saturday and now will also be open on Sunday. Their new retail space will be almost double what it is now, giving you more to look at, wider selection and 21 crew members to serve you, all of whom are people who love to fish and are great to work with. Their technicians repair rods and reels and help you select the gear you need, whether you are a newcomer, a professional fisherman, or somewhere in between. With the added space in the new store they are now going to handle freshwater gear for fish like Peacock Bass, and you will be pleased with their expanded fly fishing product line.

Community-minded Capt. Harry’s supports local churches and schools. They also sponsor the Miami Yamaha Contender Billfish Tournament, Bob Lewis Fishing Tournament, and the Shark Challenge, just to mention a few.
